The campaign says “available now”, but the customer can only order for next month. Shortcuts like this make a first launch confusing. Separate the announcement, ordering and actual use so that the page and AI answers lead to an action customers can take.
Launch status should explain what customers can do
For a first product launch, a date alone is insufficient. Customers need to know whether they can buy now, place an order only, get test access or subscribe to future availability updates. Those actions are not interchangeable.
Define status for a specific product, market and access channel. “Available” might mean sales in one country or access restricted to invited users. Omitting that condition can cause an AI answer to overstate availability.
Distinguish four states
An announcement describes a plan. Pre-order allows an order before fulfilment. Beta provides testing access with stated limits. An available product has a genuinely launched offer under the described conditions. Beta and pre-order may coexist when they concern different variants or access paths.
| Status | What the customer can do |
|---|---|
| Announced | state whether the date is confirmed or planned. |
| Pre-order | separate accepting orders from the fulfilment date. |
| Beta | describe participants, access and testing limitations. |
| Available | identify the actual market, variant and purchase or activation route. |
This is not a mandatory launch timetable. Products do not have to pass through every state. The goal is accurate description of reality, rather than fitting a launch into a predetermined sequence.
Separate dates and communicate certainty
Announcement, order-opening and first-fulfilment dates may differ. Name the event beside its date. Label an indicative date as planned. Do not turn an expected month into a specific day without confirmation.
The Google Merchant Center: availability specification distinguishes preorder from in_stock and requires an availability date for preorders. For a physical product, show the expected shipping date beside the offer. This specification does not define software beta status.
Hypothetical example: product P accepts pre-orders from 2 November 2026, while fulfilment is planned for December 2026. Beta access is restricted to an invited group. “P is available from 2 November” omits two important restrictions and needs clarification.
For a staged launch, record status separately for each market and variant. One page can contain a simple table, but each row must identify the offer it describes.
Keep launch materials consistent
Choose an official status page. When the stage changes, update its description, visible action, FAQ and materials still pointing to outdated information. An archived announcement can remain historical if its date and context are clear.
Agree responsibility with the product team. The writer needs confirmation of availability rather than inferring it from a campaign plan. Subsequent feature changes belong in a changelog; the first-launch page describes access and starting conditions.
Translate status without broadening the promise
Preserve the same date certainty in every language. “Planned” must not become “guaranteed”, and “selected testers” must not become “everyone”. Local markets and channels should match the real offer.
Do not add unconfirmed legal or payment terms. Order and fulfilment information must come from the relevant offer. Translating an article does not launch sales in a new market.
Verify answers before and after a stage change
Test “Can I already buy P?”, “Is P only in beta?” and “When does order fulfilment start?”. Preserve complete answers, date, language and sources. Evaluate whether they describe the right variant and distinguish ordering from being able to use the product.
Semly helps track AI answers and cited pages. A content change does not guarantee immediate updates in every system.
Check before implementation
- Status identifies the market and variant.
- Ordering and fulfilment dates are separate.
- Planned dates are clearly labelled.
- The button offers an action available now.
